Grille decoration – fleuron

Central Europe, 18th century

Malleable iron. Wrought round and square bar, bent and curled into spirals. Forge-welded and set on a spike issuing bars with ball terminals. A sheet which has been cut into points forms the base of the finial. The square spike is set in a cylindrical case.
